Mick's Story

A father, loveable Aussie larrikin and skilful tradesman, Michael O’Brien was raised and currently resides in the NSW coastal town of Port Macquarie. Growing up, Mick developed a strong passion for fishing, becoming a member of the Hastings District Fishing Club as a junior, going on to earn himself a National Title. In later years this passion lead Mick into game fishing, a sport he shares with his friends and family.

In the early hours of April 14th,  Michael O’Brien was involved in a horrific boating accident, along with his two fishing mates.  Thankfully, through the vigorous efforts of Marine Rescue Volunteers and Paramedics, all three lives were saved although not without severe injury.

Michael, unfortunately, has been diagnosed with severe Spinal Cord injuries and now faces life-altering circumstances and a long road to recovery

To aid in Michael’s ongoing rehabilitation, medical costs and to assist in purchasing much-needed equipment, Port Macquarie and extended area fishing club members and community mates have started to rally behind this loveable Aussie larrikin.

There is vast interest in an upcoming Auction Night to be held October 12th at Settlers Inn Hotel, Port Macquarie.   So far, through word of mouth efforts, the Committee has already received from local businesses, sports stars and individual pledges to donate goods and services to be auctioned on the night.

To ensure Michael’s “Spinal Road 2 Recovery” Auction Night is the success that it deserves the Committee is seeking sponsorship/donation of goods and services etc. to this Appeal.
